The 30th Annual International Festival 2008 began at 11am Saturday in the downtown plaza. The International Festival is a cultural celebration sponsored by AS Multicultural Affairs Council. The plaza will filled with all types of booths that seemed to cater to every type of persons needs. The delicious aroma of all kinds of food wafted though the air each seeming to represent a different culture. Not only was the food amazing but the clothing as well. It was great to see the style of so many cultures being brought together in one place. This event brought together a seemingly endless amount of cultures such as Mexico, and a Middle Eastern vibe. It was so refreshing to see so many cultures come together in the little town of Chico.
Everyone was dancing to the beat of their own drum as the band flooded the air with hip shaking beats. The old, the young and the hippies were all out on the dance floor having the time of their lives. What I thought was neat was the fact that the fair even had things to keep the children occupied. I saw Barney and Tigger! I couldn’t help but be excited for the kids. If I was there age and I saw those two characters I would be so happy I wouldn’t know what to do with myself. The band played some great songs. I didn’t know most of the songs but I did know “paint it black” by the rolling stones. What was cool about this band was that they had a unique sound. They put their own little twist on all of the songs they played. It was fun!
Another thing I enjoyed was all the people; everyone was out to have a good time. I actually met some great people and had a few laughs. This was my first time at the fair but I met a couple who attended last year and said that the fair is actually gaining some popularity and think it’s going to be even bigger next year. The international fair used to be held at the CSU campus but with the growing popularity I think the move was for the best.
Overall the international fair was a great experience. Grab some friends or family members and make a day of it. There is a lot to see and experience and there is fun for everyone. My favorite was the food!
